Short-term research program for postgraduate students, Gender and Development Studies (GDS), The School of Resources, Environment and Development in the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand
Two postgraduate students, Ms Witchayanee Ocha and Ms Punam Kumari Yadav visited the IGS between May 9th and 15th 2007. A PhD candidate, Ms Ocha aimed at examining queer in Japan: gender identities in contemporary period. Ms Yadav is doing her master thesis titled on “Gender Dimension of Conflict-Induced Internal Displacement in Nepal”. Her aim of visiting Japan was to explore some gender dimensions of disaster related displacement in Japan, and also to recognise the gender mainstreaming and gender consideration of Japanese aid programs in developing countries.
Ms Ocha had discussion with Professor Satoshi Tanahashi of Ochanomizu University in order to obtain knowledge on Japanese queer studies. She also conducted field observations in places where the Japanese gay and lesbian culture has been developed. Ms Yadav visited Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to understand procedures of conflict management of Japanese overseas aid programs. She also discussed with Dr. Izumi Morimoto of Meijigakuin University and Ms Koto Kanno, IGS visiting scholar, about several gender concerns in Nepal. During the period, Ms Ocha and Ms Yadav had very good opportunities to interact with our postgraduate students talking about academic as well as private life.
This short-term research program enables to build a close friendship between postgraduate students of Ochanomizu University and Asian Institute of Technology. Link to Gender and Development Studies (GDS), School of Environment, Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand
