Uta G, Poiger is Associate Professor of History and Adjunct Associate Professor of Women Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle, where she also directs the Institute for Transnational Studies. She received her Ph.D. in History from Brown University in 1995 and is the author of _Jazz, Rock, and Rebels: Cold War Politics and American Culture in a Divided Germany_ (Berkeley, 2000), and co-editor of _Transactions, Transgressions, Transformations: American Culture in Western Europe and Japan_ (New York, 2000). Current projects include two studies: one on the modern girl in Germany from the 1920s to the 1950s, and a second on the politics of consumption and international relations in 20th-century Germany.
